The Lone Ranger Stagecoach Escape - 79108 LEGO Review

The Lone Ranger movie is due out in theaters next week and I figured it was finally time to get around to building one of the LEGO sets from the movie line that have been sitting off to the side for a few weeks now. So far, I have picked up the Stagecoach Escape and Constitution Train. I'll be reviewing the train here in a few days.

The Stagecoach was the first set of the line that jumped out at me as a must have. In terms of western vehicles, you can't really get much more iconic than a red wagon being pulled by a team of horses. Add in the fact that you get a set packed full of figures and features, and it was hard to come up with a reason not to add this set to my collection.

Despite not having watched a Lone Ranger TV episode since I was a young child, I find myself surprisingly interested in this upcoming line of sets. I guess a large part of that is the complete lack of a recent wild west theme from LEGO. There's just something about bandits and wide brimmed hats in brick form that seems appealing to me.

Wal-Mart briefly had the sets online earlier this month and I have seen at least a few reports of them being spotted in the wild. Amazon.com currently has a few of the sets available for preorder at RRP, with an expected shipping date of April 15th.

Up for preorder so far are the Cavalry Builder (79106), Comanche Camp (79107), and Stagecoach Escape (79108). The larger sets are not yet up, but I will add them when they are. The train and mine are available through horribly overpriced third party sellers, just in case you do not want to wait a week.

LEGO Lone Ranger sets looking good

When I first heard that Disney was doing a Lone Ranger movie, I felt that it would probably end up doing the classic justice. Say what you will about Disney, but they usually do things right in the sense that they end up making fun movies. At least with their first jump into a new world. The first Pirates of the Caribbean is easily one of my favorite movies ever, and probably would have stood up fine if it had not been for the seemingly pointless sequels. I also enjoyed John Carter quite a bit, even it was considered a flop. We are a Disney family though, so I realize my opinions may be a little skewed.

Of course, Disney has a strong relationship with LEGO. The past several years have seen several excellent sets come out that have been tied to Disney movies and early indications are that the Lone Ranger will end up being another strong entry in the line.
