SDCC 2013 Super Hero minifigures unveiled

LEGO is continuing its tradition of offering several exclusive Super Heroes minifigures at the San Diego Comic Con, which gets underway later this week. The figs for this year include Spider-Woman, a black suited Superman, Green Arrow, and a new torso print for Spider-Man.

As a fan of the Super Heroes line, I'm a little sad that I will likely never own a single one of these.These figures have seen extremely high demand in the past and typically command a huge price on the secondary market. Previous versions have pretty much started with price tags north of $100, since the only way to get them is to be at the show and to win the lottery.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game pre-order bonus

The game is not due out until the end of October, but GameStop has apparently unveiled the exclusive preorder bonus content it will be offering for the LEGO MARVEL Super Heroes game. According to the current pre-order page, those who buy the game in advance will receive....a Spider-Man keychain.

Oh yeah, you'll also get a download code for some extra characters.

Iron Man 3 Malibu Mansion Attack - 76007 LEGO Review

Capping off my reviews of the latest wave of Iron Man LEGO sets is a look at #76007, Iron Man: Malibu Mansion Attack.This 364 piece set is the largest of the Iron Man 3 movie tie-ins and carries a US retail price of $39.99. It also features several exclusive minifigures, including Pepper Potts.

So, let's talk about whether this set is worth plunking down $40 of your hard earned money.

Iron Man Extremis Sea Port Battle - 76006 LEGO Review

Next up on our tour of Iron Man 3 LEGO sets, we have the Extremis Sea Port Battle. This 195 piece set has a US retail price of $19.99 and includes three minifigures, making it a fairly reasonable value for a licensed set at that price point. Of course, it also features both Iron Man and War Machine, making it even more appealing to the Super Heroes fans out there.

Iron Man vs. The Mandarin - 76008 LEGO Review

It's been awhile since I sat down and actually decided to review a set I was building. It's also been awhile since I built a retail release set as well. I've been a little tied up with a larger MOC for Brick World-Chicago this summer. I decided to give the latest round of Iron Man 3 sets a try, after I quickly pounced on them when they were listed on Amazon last week. This is the first of three reviews, one for each set in the line.

We start with the smallest LEGO set from the line, Iron Man vs. The Mandarin: Ultimate Showdown (76008). Let's get down to business.

First look at Superman vs. General Zod LEGO set

Pictures of the summer wave of 2013 Super Heroes LEGO sets are starting to leak, and USA Today is giving us our first glimpse of one of the tie-ins for the Man of Steel movie due out this summer. It's a little bitty thing, featuring Superman taking on General Zod, along with some scenery and a car the two can toss around.

LEGO Batman movie to include Clark Kent minifigure

What's the best way to get me to buy a LEGO movie? I'll give you a hint. He wears glasses, is a little geeky, and is secretly Superman. Yeah, I guess that's not really much of a hint. Looks like I was right in hoping for an exclusive to come packaged with this release.

I have no idea if a similar figure is planned at all for the Man of Steel sets we should be getting this summer, but I'll probably have to add this title to my collection anyway just for the figure. I'm very clearly developing a weakness for figures from the Super Heroes line.

The movie is due out on 5/21/13 and will have an MSRP of 24.99. If past experience is any indication though, you will be able to get it for much cheaper than that pretty easily.

UPDATE: Amazon currently has this up for pre-order at $17.49.

Possible LEGO War Machine minifigure on ebay

An auction currently up on ebay is giving us a glimpse at one of the possible new minifigures in the spring Super Heroes line. It's War Machine, another variant of the Iron Man suit and a character that's expected to play a big role in the upcoming Iron Man 3 movie that's due this summer.

2013 LEGO Star Wars, Super Heroes, and TMNT sets on sale!

Just in case you need that last minute Christmas gift, it appears several retailers are starting to sell the early 2013 waves of LEGO sets. Multiple new sets are now available on Amazon and have been reported in local stores, although I have not been lucky enough to see anything but Hobbit sets so far.

The Super Heroes sets include the Arctic Batman and Mr. Freeze and Spider-Cycle Chase (with Venom and Nick Fury). Sadly, it does not appear Arkham Asylum, The Bat, or Daily Bugle showdown are available to order yet. Both of the sets up right now are only $19.99, which is pretty awesome.

On the Star Wars side of things, Clone Troopers vs Droidekas, Republic vs Sith Troopers, AT-RT, and the Rancor Pit. No sign of the A-Wing or Z-95 Headhunter yet, but the A-Wing did show up on ebay recently...so retail may not be far behind.

LEGO Batman - The Movie

It looks like the LEGO Super Heroes characters will get the movie treatment. The DC line-up will have a movie out next year in a direct-to-video release featuring Batman and many more.



I would be lying if I didn't say I'm very interested in checking this out. I am left to wonder if there will be an exclusive minifigure packaged with the DVD, similar to the LEGO Star Wars Padawan Menace movie.

Final 2013 Super Heroes LEGO sets revealed

Online retailer World of Games has posted images of the four new Super Heroes LEGO sets that are due out later in 2013. We got our first glimpse of the new Tumbler vs. The Bat and Daily Bugle sets over the weekend at NY Comic Con. Now, we get to see the Spider-Cycle and Batman vs. Mr. Freeze sets.

First up, let's take a look at the Spider-Cycle set. The piece count is not listed, but it looks pretty similar to about the size of the Wolverine Chopper Showdown set from the first wave. We get another Spider-man figure, but there's also the long awaited Venom and Nick Fury in here as well. I'm going to guess US retail on this well end up being in about the $20 range. Or at least, that's what I'm hoping for.

LEGO Super Heroes 2013 - Tumbler Chase and Daily Bugle Showdown

Forum user Legobrandon has posted images of two new sets from the 2013 Super Heroes line over at toysnbricks. We are finally getting a first look at the modern version of the Tumbler (in Dark Knight Rises tan) and the Bat set, along with the Daily Bugle playset for Spider-man.

Let's start with #76001 - The Bat vs. Bane - Tumbler Chase. It's a 368 piece set with an MSRP of $39.99. It includes movie version minifigures of Batman, Bane, and Commissioner Gordon.

LEGO Super Heroes -The 2013 Arkham Asylum revealed!

After LEGO unveiled the next wave of Super Heroes minifigures at ComicCon earlier this summer, it was pretty much assumed there was going to be a new version of Arkham Asylum coming out in 2013. The Harley Quinn in disguise and Joker in orange jumpsuit pretty much sealed the deal in the minds of many fans. That feeling was proven correct today, as a press release is now out with the details of what looks like the biggest set yet in the Super Heroes lineup.

The 10937 Batman™ - Arkham Asylum Breakout set is 1,351 pieces and will carry a US retail price of $159.99 (CA $209.99 DE 159.99€ UK 129.99 £ DK  1399.00 DKK).

NOTE: While the press release says 1,351 pieces, the box art actually lists it as 1,619 pieces. That would be more in line with this price point, compared to what we have seen for SH sets in the past year.

LEGO Super Heroes 2013 rumors

Rumor season for the winter and early 2013 sets is in full swing. Retailers have apparently received a sneak peak of the line up, but are sworn to secrecy. That has not stopped at least some info from coming out though. Of course, my biggest interest right now is what's in store for the next wave of Super Heroes sets. Especially after seeing pictures of the sweet upcoming minifigures from Comic Con earlier this summer.

Let's start with the DC rumors, since I've been far more excited about that line so far than the next wave of Marvel-based sets.

The first rumor I have seen reported in a few places is a boat based battle featuring the white suit Batman, Mr. Freeze, and Aquaman. No pictures have surfaced yet and this is only a rumor so far, but I'm very much looking forward to this being a reality. I imagine the setup will be something along the lines of Mr. Freeze has captured Aquaman and Batman zips in to the rescue where some high tech polar gear.

Building the Batman Tumbler from 7888

The release of the latest Batman movie this summer had me in the mood to own a Tumbler. Unfortunately, I'm about four years late to the party to get the original set, unless I want to cough up the several hundred dollars it apparently goes for now. That's not an option for what's basically an impulse project on my current budget and collection goals.

Thankfully, a kind Bricksetter went to the trouble of going through the parts list for the set and identifying what is needed to build just the Tumbler vehicle. A little bit of want list construction on BL, and I was on my way with a few orders.

Spider-man's Doc Ock Ambush 6873 - Review

I lucked out and managed to pick up a copy of the new Spider-man set during one of the brief periods it was available on Walmart's website. The set is hard to come by and is an exclusive to Walmart and LEGO stores in the US. It's been pretty scarce so far and only showed up on LEGO Store shelves this week. Walmart released it online a little earlier. My copy arrived in the mail today and I could not wait to crack it open.

This $29.99 set is 295 pieces and includes three great minifigures. You get Spider-man, Doc Ock, and Iron Fist. Spidey looks great, as you would expect. Some nice muscle tone on the suit's front and back printing. Iron Fist has some minor printing on the back, but nothing too detailed. Spidey comes with a strand of web which is pretty long, adding a nice play feature.

LEGO Super Heroes minifigures for 2013 - SDCC 2012

Pictures are starting to surface of what LEGO minifigures we can expect to come out in 2013. Of all the news I've been looking forward to out of San Diego Comic Con, this easily tops my list. And the line-up does not dissapoint.

FBTB again gives us the goods, with several great photos and apparently the official product shots.

For Marvel, it appears we'll be getting at least another Spider-man, Nick Fury, Venom, Nova, J. Jonah Jameson, Dr. Doom, and The Beetle.

For DC, Mister Freeze, Aquaman, Batman (white suit), Bane (movie), Commissioner Gordon (movie), Robin with a hood, Scarecrow, Joker in an orange jumpsuit, the Penguin and what appears to be Harley Quinn in a nurse's outfit. A guard and two other versions of Batman (black with wings and the movie suit in gray on black) were not on display, apparently.

Batmobile polybag 30161 - Review

Thanks to a very kind and generous Bricksetter, I was able to get my hands on a couple of copies of the Batmobile polybags. So far, these have only been available during the recent Sun promotion over in the UK. I eagerly look forward to the day when some US publication gives out free polys with the purchase of a cheap paper.

My polys arrived the other day and I just could not wait to build the Batmobile. It's obviously super small, but I was looking forward to seeing how this one would come together.

Finally...a Spidey set!

We knew Spider-Man was coming, since the three Marvel figs were included in the catalogs that came with The Avengers sets. We just didn't know how big of a set would be required to get them. Thanks to Mr. Toys in Australia, we finally know what to expect when this hits retail shelves. Presumably it will come out later this summer, probably near the release of the Spider-Man movie.

However, this set is not tied to the movie at all. Apparently Mega Blechs has the license, based on some photos I believe I saw over on Brickset. LEGO only picked up the rights to make sets based on the cartoon series. Based on the pics in the comics that come with the Super Heroes sets, I think the Spidey and Iron Fist figures look good. Not sure how I feel about Doc Ock though. I kind of like the older figures better that came with Hollywood line of sets. I always felt the movie version of the Doc captured the character pretty much as he appeared in the comic...minus the green body suit.

LEGO Hulk now available!

In case you haven't seen it floating around just about everywhere, LEGO is offering a free Incredible Hulk minifigure with $50 purchase. The promotion starts today and runs through the end of the month.

I will be getting at least one. I don't think I can pass up exclusive figs from this line. However, unlike the May the 4th promotion, LEGO is currently not offering free shipping. In the US that adds at least $4.95 to the cost of the order, but it will mostly like be closer to the $8 range because of the weight.
